The most expensive hair

Surprise, surprise, the most expensive hair has already out of water. An auction of Elvis Presley memorabilia got bidders all shook up Sunday, with a clump of the late King of Rock and Roll’s hair selling for 18,300 dollars and one of his shirts for 62,000 dollars.

More than 150 items that had belonged to the former president of the Elvis Presley fan club went on the block at Chicago’s Leslie Hindman auctioneers.

The priciest items included a red ultrasuede shirt worn by Elvis, which was sold for 34,000 dollars, and a monogrammed cream-colored shirt that sold for 62,000, according to the auction house’s listing of post-auction sale prices.

Two concert-worn scarves sold for a combined 2,318 dollars. A set of concert-used handkerchiefs went for 732 dollars.

Presley’s personal collection of single song mini-records, known as 45 rpms, sold for 3,904 dollars.

Wedding and bridal shower photos of Elvis and wife Priscilla sold for nearly 6,000 dollars.

Personal letters from Elvis’s relatives were also among the items auctioned, including a collection of letters from his estranged grandfather J.D. Presley (1,159 dollars) and from his aunt (458 dollars).

The auction house did not provide details about the buyers, including the purchaser of a “large quantity of Elvis’s hair,” which went for 18,300.

Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977) was an American singer and actor. A cultural icon, he is commonly known simply as Elvis and is also sometimes referred to as The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll or The King.

Presley began his career in 1954 as one of the first performers of rockabilly, an uptempo fusion of country and rhythm and blues with a strong back beat. His novel versions of existing songs, mixing “black” and “white” sounds, made him popular—and controversial—as did his uninhibited stage and television performances. Presley had a versatile voice and he had unusually wide success encompassing many genres, including rock and roll, gospel, blues, country, ballads and pop. To date, he has been inducted into four music halls of fame.
